ECBB 2026: Animal Behaviour in the Anthropocene comes to Cambridge

We were delighted to help host the European Conference for Behavioural Biology (ECBB) 2026 here at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, from 1 to 4 September.

ECBB is held every other year in a European country, and this year’s meeting was also the official summer conference of the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB) and of the Ethologische Gesellschaft. The theme was Animal Behaviour in the Anthropocene, which sits very close to our own work on how human activity, including noise, affects animal behaviour and communication.

More than 300 delegates from around the world came to Cambridge for plenary lectures, 127 talks across four parallel symposia and 86 posters. Topics ranged from artificial light at night to underwater sensory pollution and the social microbiome. The week also included an early career researcher pub quiz and a conference dinner and ceilidh at Homerton College.

Jake was part of the ARU organising committee, alongside Çağlar Akçay, Krishna Balasubramaniam, Roberta Blake, Francesca Cassola, Anna Nekaris, Andrew Smith, Claudia Wascher and Ariana Weldon. A huge thank you to the whole team, to ASAB for its support, including travel and childcare grants, and to everyone who came along!

You can read more on the ECBB 2026 website and in this highlights post on Springer Nature Research Communities.
